Description

The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) is a U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC) User Facility, providing rare isotope beams to scientists to make discoveries about the properties of rare isotopes, nuclear astrophysics, fundamental interactions, and applications for society. The FRIB accelerator is a high-power superconducting linear accelerator which can accelerate ions up to uranium to energies of at least 200 MeV/u. FRIB operations started in 2022 after the newly constructed accelerator and separator was connected to the existing beam lines and experimental end stations. This contribution will discuss operational reliability aspects and the importance of defining system ownership to improve facility availability. This material is based upon work supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science, Office of Nuclear Physics and used resources of the FRIB Operations, which is a DOE Office of Science User Facility under Award Number DE-SC0023633.
