The most convenient way to reach Aomori is by flying from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND) to Aomori Airport (AOJ). Japan Airlines (JAL) operates several flights per day. If your international flight arrives at Haneda, transferring to a domestic flight is simple and requires little time. However, if you arrive at Narita Airport (NRT), you will need to travel to Haneda by bus or train. A minimum of three hours is normally required for the transfer from Narita to Haneda. Please note that it may take longer depending on immigration and customs procedures, so check with your airline and allow plenty of time.
You can also take the Hayabusa service on the JR Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori (approximately 3.5 hours) and transfer to a local train to Aomori Station (5 minutes). The total one-way travel time is around 4 hours. Seat reservations are mandatory on all Hayabusa trains.

A round trip between Tokyo and Aomori alone is generally not sufficient to make the Japan Rail Pass cost-effective. In addition, any days that fall during the workshop period would be wasted. It would be worth to consider using the pass if you plan to travel before or after the workshop.
