The organizing committee is delighted to welcome two distinguished speakers whose expertise extends beyond the accelerator field. By sharing experiences from railway systems and marine research infrastructures, they will provide valuable perspectives on reliability, maintenance, and long-term operational excellence.
 

The accelerator community faces many of the same reliability and maintainability challenges as other mission-critical infrastructures. This invited session brings perspectives from these fields on operations, maintenance, and reliability engineering, providing insights to help improve the reliability and availability of accelerator facilities.

 


Speaker 1

Dr. Tadao Takigami

General Director, JR Affairs, Research & Development Promotion Division,
Railway Technical Research Institute (RTRI), Japan
 
Japan's railway network is widely recognized for its exceptional reliability, safety, and operational performance. Drawing on experience from the railway sector, Dr. Takigami will share perspectives on ensuring the reliable operation of large-scale technical systems.

 

Biography: Born in 1971, Tadao Takigami holds a PhD in Engineering from Nagoya University and has built a career in dynamics, measurement and control of mechanical systems. He joined the Railway Technical Research Institute (RTRI) in 1999, where he has engaged in R&D to improve passenger ride comfort, particularly through studies of railway vehicle vibration. His research interests include railway vehicle dynamics, vibration control, ride comfort evaluation, and measurement technologies for railway systems. He has authored technical papers in these fields and has contributed to the advancement of railway technologies for safer and more comfortable transportation. He is a Fellow of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Dr. Nobuhisa Eguchi

Counselor for IODP3, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), Japan

JAMSTEC operates advanced scientific platforms and research infrastructure that must maintain high availability and reliability under challenging operating conditions. Dr. Eguchi will provide insights from the operation and maintenance of these complex facilities, highlighting experiences that resonate with reliability challenges faced by accelerator laboratories.

 

Biography: Born in Kyoto, Nobuhisa Eguchi holds a PhD in Geology from the University of Tokyo and has built a distinguished career in scientific program and research infrastructure management. His career began with the management of international scientific ocean drilling programs. He joined the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) in 2007, where he oversaw the onboard laboratories of the deep-sea drilling vessel CHIKYU and, through 2018, coordinated support for international scientific teams as an Expedition Project Manager. Since 2019, he has held responsibility for operations across JAMSTEC’s research fleet. In 2023, he was appointed Director General of the Institute for Marine-Earth Exploration and Engineering. Since 2025, he has served as Counselor for IODP3 at JAMSTEC.
