Description

Machine statistics can provide more than just a reliability percentage. Through a combination of systems, habits, and close coordination between NSLS-II’s data collection (Operations group) and our maintenance planning (Coordination group), we have been able to use our fault data in interesting and effective ways.

Knowing and tracking the frequency and duration of faults by system and device shows us info about the current & historic vulnerabilities in specific systems, even down to a device level. We regularly use that data to help set priority for work during limited maintenance and shutdown periods, and to quantify what repairs/efforts have been most effective.
