Description

At GSI, during the 2025 beam time, the accelerator complex achieved its highest availability in many years. Everything was geared toward realizing the First Beam Event for FAIR by the end of 2026. At the beginning of 2026, however, a fire occurred during a test run in the RF system. The entire RF system was destroyed, and many devices were severely affected by smoke and firefighting water. Rebuilding will take several years. Interim solutions to enable temporary scientific operation were planned and are to be implemented.
