Description

The ISIS accelerator is based on an 800MeV synchrotron arranged as a 'White Circuit'. The magnet current is a 50Hz AC waveform superimposed on top of a DC bias. There are two separate power supplies: one DC the other AC. The AC power supply has changed since the original early 1980's installation which was built from rotating machines through to a modified UPS system in the 2000's. It is again due to be replaced as part of an obsolescence programme. This paper describes the various systems along with some of the issues arising from each approach.
