Description
After more than two decades of CERN LHC accelerator cryogenic operation, the LHC entered its third Long Shutdown period (LS3) in July 2026. Major consolidation and maintenance works are being performed across the entire CERN LHC Accelerator to prepare the HL-LHC for restart at higher energy. Some of these works concern the renovation of electrical process controls for parts of the cryogenic machines; others are associated with the consolidation of LHC systems; and a few involve completely new HL-LHC installations. This paper describes the strategy and consolidation tasks undertaken to maintain the excellent operational availability results achieved in past runs for the upcoming CERN HL-LHC physics run campaign.
