Description
The operation of an accelerator-driven subcritical system (ADS) requires strict control over the frequency and duration of beam interruptions to prevent thermal stresses on the reactor structures. A significant challenge is minimizing the number of beam interruptions that last longer than a few seconds, as this is a common issue in current linear accelerators. To address this challenge, the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) has implemented a hybrid availability scheme. This scheme combines a hot standby system in the low-energy section with rapid cavity compensation in the high-energy section, ensuring compliance with availability requirements. This paper presents and analyzes this scheme.
