Description
The MedAustron Ion Therapy Centre saw the first patient treatment in December 2016. Starting as a single-room, proton-only machine employing only one horizontal beam line, the therapy accelerator has gradually evolved to a three-room p+ and C6+ facility encompassing two horizontal beam lines, one vertical beam line, and a Gantry, allowing us to routinely treat more than 50 patients per day.
The contribution focuses on the development of the operations and service team from a monitoring body into a multidisciplinary service provider for all end users. Furthermore, it highlights the team’s development into specialized maintenance experts, taking responsibility for components, systems, and processes.
It examines the benefits of a highly qualified operations team, acting as a rapid response unit, thereby significantly reducing the mean time to repair (MTTR). In addition, the operations and service team actively contributes to the improvement of the meantime between failures (MTBF) through technical experience, especially regarding the identification and prioritization of bug fixes and system improvements, and through the optimization of service procedures and trainings based on our operational experience.
