Description
RF cavity at the SAGA Light source (SAGA-LS) had been in operation since 2004. In recent years, the SAGA-LS storage ring has experienced frequent sudden beam losses caused by trips of the RF system due to reflected RF power from the RF cavity. To address this issue, the RF cavity was replaced with a new one in November 2025.
During the replacement, the interiors of the previously installed cavity body and waveguides, which had been in operation, were inspected to investigate the cause of the reflected RF power trips. The inspection revealed traces of discharge on the HOM damper, movable tuner, waveguides and quartz viewport. A fiberscope camera and a digital microscope were used for the inspection, respectively.
In this presentation, we report the photographs of these discharge marks and report other findings from the inspection of discharge-related damage in and around the RF cavity system.
