Description

Ensuring accelerator availability requires modelling of the interactions between component failures, repair processes, system dependencies and operational processes. AvailSim4 is an open-source, general-purpose, discrete-event Monte Carlo tool providing a simulation foundation for addressing these challenges across a range of accelerator projects and technologies. Its flexible architecture has supported studies ranging from contained systems to integrated accelerator complexes comprising thousands of components. Previous applications include reliability studies for MYRRHA and quench-detection systems in the LHC. For CERN’s proposed Future Circular Collider, an adapted AvailSim4 implementation provides the simulation engine for RAMI Lab, a dedicated environment developed to connect detailed system behaviour to accelerator performance. This presentation will showcase the adaptability of AvailSim4 across a spectrum of accelerator projects, illustrating how its simulation capabilities can support reliability-informed engineering.
