Description
The Linac Coherent Light Source facility comprises a normal-conducting linear accelerator and a newly commissioned superconducting linear accelerator, both capable of multiplexed electron beam delivery to two independent undulator lines. Maintaining stable and reproducible accelerator performance in this environment has often required reactive troubleshooting to address recurring operational issues.
To improve long-term reliability and operational efficiency, focused efforts have been undertaken to identify the root causes of persistent performance variability across both accelerator systems. This presentation highlights the transition from reactive “firefighting” toward a more sustainable and resilient operational model through targeted enhancements in hardware reliability, automation, feedback systems, and operational procedures. Lessons learned from these implementations will be discussed, along with their impact on accelerator stability, reproducibility, and machine availability.
